Our Solid Waste Department

Dear Residents,

As we roll out your new garbage carts, the City of Lake Station wants to stress some important details with the new garbage system.  The welcome packet provides full detail on how you should use and maintain your new garbage cart.   Here are some important things you should know:

  •    Carts must be placed in front of driveway on easement and away from any obstructions.

  •    Make sure to have at least 2 feet between your garbage cart and recycle cart.

  •   Carts are the property of the City of Lake Station, if you are moving outside of Lake Station the carts must stay behind.  If you are moving within the City, contact Solid Waste Dept. to update your information.

  •    Do not vandalize, damage, burn or mark the carts.

  •    If you are unable to fit all of your garbage in one cart, extra carts are available for an additional fee of $4.00 a month.

  •     Alley pick-up will cease to continue once you receive your new carts.

  •    Only your new City carts will be used, older or rented cart cannot be used. Should you decide to get rid of your old cans, simply place them curbside next to your new can with a label: “Trash, Please Take.” You have two weeks from the start of your new service to dispose of your old cans in this manner.

  •    Your garbage will be picked up according to the day scheduled on your welcome packet.

The City of Lake Station is looking forward to the upcoming months in kicking off the garbage pick-up and urges the residents to please be patient with this new process.  If you have any questions please call Solid Waste Dept. at (219) 962-8087.

Sincerely,

Mayor Keith Soderquist
